The word alone can strike terror into the hearts of many of us.
When fear is left to run wild with abandon it can cripple us, and lead us to living a life that we are not happy with.
Fear has become a word which is thought of negatively. Phobias, terrifying animals, catastrophic evidence, all of these are banded about as fears, giving the word a negative connotation it doesn’t necessarily deserve.
The reality is more nuanced.
Fear may be overly positive, but if it is harnessed in the right way, and met head on, it can become a powerful ally in your daily life.
The fear of being stuck in a job I despised, compelled me to take action and go travelling.
The thing is, you can always get a job. You can never relive your life. If you want to do something, just go and do it!
I had a steady job, but I wasn’t happy. It didn’t fulfil me. I could have carried on for another few years, but where would I end up?
I would be in the same position, but even more depressed and resentful than before.
Deep down, you know what you want. The problem is, a lot of us are afraid to go after it through fear.
Fear of failure.
Fear of what others may think.
Fear of the unknown.
What ever it is, this fear holds us back. You have to embrace the fear. Fear is good.
Fear can make you do things you never thought you would.
Fear can take you places you never thought you’d venture.
The key word here is CAN.
It can only do all these things if you take action.
I quit my job and went travelling. I was terrified.
In fact, I was so terrified, that on the flight to Australia. I didn’t want the plane to land!
However, once I got off the plane and realised I had nothing to be afraid of, I felt a huge release!
I had embraced my fear.
Fear becomes smaller once you get closer to it! Don’t be afraid to take risks.
