It’s what I thought too rosemary until I thought about it for a little while. I remember posting a picture of a completed jigsaw on Facebook when I was in Australia and someone commenting why I was doing one when I was in Australia.
It’s a fair question, but when you’re spending a year in a country, you’re not going to be doing stuff every day. It’s simply not feasible you need downtime, I don’t think people realise this until they do long-term travel themselves.
They see these photos on Instagram and assume the whole trip is sunshine and rainbows when they don’t see the long flights or bus journeys, or people snoring in hostel dorms.
The lens is certainly obscured when it comes to what we see on Instagram, we see a minuscule amount of people’s lives on that platform, yet assume we know them from a few snapshots of their life.
