Yep 25 to 30% was the range I was thinking when I wrote large portion. I should have specified that in my response. That is a big number in a democracy and worrying, especially when you consider the Electoral College gives undue weight o less populated states.

I think the Dems need to look at making Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico states. I'd say the majority of Americans are liberal, yet that's often not reflected by the politics in the country, which is what baffles a lot of us over here. The Republicans will keep inching further right until it no longer becomes a winning strategy. An alternative to the two party system would be healthy too, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
